Synaesthesia is a game started at the end of the 2nd year of Game Design and continued throughout our 3rd year. With a team of 10 people, including 6 GD and 4 3D, we are creating a puzzle game.

Our game is currently being developed on Unreal Engine 5. All 3D models, animations and environments will be created by the 3D team. In the current version, there's only level 1 with 3D assets.

The game contains the HUB, 3 game levels. The game's story is still at the design stage, and so remains vague on this version. We're continuing to work on it and improve our game. 


Now that we've finished our studies, some of us want to take the project all the way.


Script Pitch :

You play as Blanche, a synesthete painter, meaning that her mind links colours to emotions. The death of her mother in a bombing during the blitzkrieg traumatised her. From then on, she no longer felt her own emotions and could no longer paint. Lost in her tortured and enigmatic mind, she has to find the way to recovery. She goes through the memories of traumatic events in her life, first of all the day her mother died, full of anger. Then the memory of the difficult times spent working in a factory under the orders of a misogynistic foreman from the Vichy regime, eaten away by depression. Finally, she reconnects with joy during a nostalgic introspection in which she resumes her passion for painting and recalls the good times spent with her mother. She has now turned the page of her life and is faced with a blank canvas, ready to paint the first work of her new life.

Game Pitch :

Synaesthesia is a first person puzzle game where you play as Blanche. The pace of the puzzles is slow, the player has all the time he wants to think about the solution of the puzzle. The aim of the game is to heal Blanche's traumas, each room corresponding to a trauma. The player must therefore cross a room by solving the riddles that block his way to cure one of Blanche's traumas, which allows him to access a new colour. He then returns to the hub, a central room whose appearance reflects Blanche's psychological state. The main mechanic of the game is the Chroma Gun, a weapon that changes the colour of objects and will be the essential tool to solve each of the puzzles. Changing the colour of an object with the Chroma Gun changes its properties, which allows you to solve puzzles to progress in the game. The items that can be changed are white and are platforms, painters' canvases, treadmills and crates.

In the next big change update planned : 

- Scenario improvement and implementation. 

- Creation of 3D assets for levels 2 and 3. 

- Animation of fragments for all levels and creation of fragments for levels 2 and 3. 

- Creation and implementation of cinematics. 

- Code refactoring for certain mechanics. 

- Bug fixes.
